An angel tattoo can be cherubic or demonic in its appearance. The innocence of a youthful angel appeals to some, while others prefer the archangel with his authoritative stance. Still others avoid the seriousness of both and elect to add humor by having Betty-Boop-like or kissing angels.

The more detailed angel depicts angels praying over fallen saints, destroying demons with swords and embattled with evil martyrs. Angel tattoos run the gamut from fun simple visions of spiritual angels to amusing versions, like a bull dog with wings. The winged body appears surrounded by hearts and encircled in flowing ribbons; they appear in a crucified posture, with head lowered; and they appear as demonic visions carrying tridents or heavenly visions with halos.

Which heavenly body you choose to have tattooed on your body probably depends on your state of mind at the time of the tattoo shop visit and the artist’s skill. Some artists are so skilled that the consumer is influenced by the great skill of the tattoo artist. The more skilled the artist, the more elaborate the tattoo that is chosen. Those images that are selected because the consumer is in a melancholy state of mind often depict angels in serious activities like prayer, battles or slaying wrongdoers. When the consumer is celebrating an event, they often choose angels that are engaged in more light-hearted activities like ascending to the heavens or embracing someone.

Angel tattoos will always be around, because so many people believe they exist and even those who don’t believe they exist are enamored with their images. There’s something transfixing about those wings whether extended in mid air or relaxed next to the body. They always capture one’s attention. Some people even tattoo full-sized wings on their own back to mimic an angel themselves.

Angels have a sort of hold on the subconscious of many people, so it’s not surprising so many people have angel tattoos. Just like with love, which is on the mind of almost every human being, our tattoos reflect our feelings. Angels will be tattooed on our bodies as long as the mystic of angels prevails and that could be a very long time.
